The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is life itself for the Gwich’in people. For generations, it has sustained our food, culture, and spirit. As the calving ground of the Porcupine Caribou Herd and home to countless wildlife, protecting Iizhik Gwats’an Gwandaii Goodlit, ‘The Sacred Place Where Life Begins,’ is essential to preserving our identity and way of life.
